January 2025

My name is Chelsea. I am a wife and a mom of three boys. Thirteen years go, I never knew where the road of life would take me but teen depression was always furthest from my mind.

These blogs are real life stories from a mom’s point of view and struggle. I will never speak on my son’s pain or feelings as I can only assume but I can tell you about my pains.

These might be triggering and would advise to readers there is always support to stay SAFE.

It all started at the end of 2024. My oldest son, who we will reference as “J”. His grades started to slip and his friend groups started to change. He kept to his room but was still very much tentative to his chores. I assumed we hit the teen changes.

After the holidays he was visiting with the school counselor more and concerns started to rise. He got into a pushing argument with another peer. School recommended to see his pediatrician. Normally I would not immediately involve his doctor but my mommy signal was starting to get concerned.

Middle of January rolled around and J meet with his doctor to talk about his newly developed feelings of sadness.

His doctor advised he had signs of depression and would recommend starting him in 25mg of Zoloft and we will increase after six weeks. We all agreed therapy was not needed at this time.

The following 3 days was mentally draining to me, as I had time to process the diagnosis of depression. No mother ever wants to hear their child is depressed but I convinced myself the times have changed and depression went hand in hand with teenagers hormones.
